Pope Adrian IV

What is the name of the only English Pope?

Adrian IV was pope from 1154 to his death in 1159.  When King Henry II of England landed with 4,000 soldiers at Waterford in October 1171, he came carrying the Papal Bull Laudabiliter, by which the Pope claimed the right to give Ireland as a gift to Henry on condition that he forcibly ended the ancient Celtic or Culdee Church, and brought the island and its people into submission to the Roman Catholic Church.

Adrian died on September 1, 1159, reputedly choking on a fly in his wine, but probably of an infection of the tonsils.  Many Irish, however, prefer the fly version.
