Teen Dating: Who Do You Talk To?

Do you tell your parents everything?  Who tells more?  Do you tell Mom or Dad?

When it comes to talking to your parents about your dating experiences, adolescent girls tend to tell more than boys, and both sexes prefer to talk to mom over dad.

A study reported by ScienceDaily in 2010, found that girls and boys are equally secretive about sexual issues and what they do on their dates while unsupervised.

"Many parents become frustrated because they feel that the lack of communication with their teenage children is evidence of increasing distance or diminishing influence," explained Christopher Daddis, co-author of the study and assistant professor of psychology at Ohio State University at Marion.

"What we found is that adolescents are willing to talk to their parents about some issues, but those issues may change as they grow older and they feel more autonomous."

Younger adolescents were more forthcoming than older adolescents.  Kids who reported a high level of trust with their parents also disclosed more information about their relationships.
